Coast Basketball welcomes you to our U14 & U12 Junior Development Program
The JDP (Junior Development Program) is designed to provide quality experiences and support player development. Our objective is to expose promising young athletes to high quality basketball from across the region. This will challenge our athletes and expose them to new styles of play, competition and a whole new intensity.
The JDP will introduce its players to key concepts and techniques that will help them have fun, play well and have future opportunities. Our goal is to introduce players to the Hibiscus Coast Style of Play which promotes motion style principles that value positionless play, game understanding and a flexible skill set. We see this as an enjoyable and effective way to play.
Principles:
Motion-style offense
Continuous movement
No fixed positions
Man-to-man defense
Decision- Making areas:
Reducing turnovers
Creating and exploiting opportunities through movement:
Efficient shot selection
Technical Aspects:
Footwork to avoid travels
Stopping on balance
Using both hands
Defending without fouling
Selections will be based on a combination of attributes and skills that we believe will 1. Allow them to fill meaningful roles against other associations 2. Makes them into an exciting long-term prospect.
Prior inclusions to past teams and events does not guarantee selection into the same teams for the JDP or past exclusions from teams does not mean that your child will miss out again. With this age group a lot can change in a short period of time! Our selections will be based on how well a trialist combines the following attributes.
Ask questions and shows curiosity
Learns concepts introduced at open court sessions and trials
Shows a clear love for the game or strong interest in the game
Team-first attitude
Competitiveness and intensity
Work rate in play
Vocal Leadership
General Skillfulness and technical ability
Ball security and comfort against pressure
Playmaking, scoring and shooting
Spatial awareness and off-ball movement
Individual defense and rebounding
Body composition and physical maturity
Athleticism, including coordination, speed explosiveness, quickness and fluidity of movement
Current and expected future health
Our goal is long term athlete development and giving all our players a quality experience as they begin their journey into competitive basketball
